If my child likes a particular game, how can I go back to play that game without doing the training levels?
Click menu on the main screen and then Games on the tab at the bottom. You can change the list to show only games of a particular type by clicking on the category buttons at the top.
I want to go back to the beginning of the training and the games, how can I do that?
Click menu on the main screen and then Settings on the tab at the bottom. Click Reset Game Progress to go back to the beginning and not start the game from where you last left off.
The sound level is too low – when my child says the sounds, the game doesn’t respond consistently. What should I do?
You may need to calibrate your microphone. While the app should respond well with its default calibration, different iPods and iPhones have differing sensitivity levels. Additionally, the ambient sound of the environment you are in can affect how the microphone picks up sound. See How do I calibrate the microphone below.
Other sounds in the room are being picked up by the microphone and causing the game to react – how can I make it so my child’s voice is what the game responds to?
The game is best played in a quiet place to avoid other sounds being picked up intentionally. Ambient sound of the environment you are in can affect how the microphone picks up sound, so if there is background noise in the place you are using the app, you may want to calibrate your microphone.
How do I calibrate the microphone?
To calibrate your microphone, start the app and click on the menu button in the lower right-hand corner. Answer the skill testing question and click on the settings tab at the bottom of your screen. Click Calibrate Mic and do not speak. The microphone will record the ambient sound in the room and adjust the sensitivity automatically. You can also move the slider to further refine the microphone sensitivity manually.
Is there anything I need to do to set up the game the first time playing?
The app should respond well to your child’s voice in its default state, however you may want to calibrate the microphone for best results.
Are there instructions or help in the app?
Yes, if you click on the ‘i’ on the main sceen, you will see the How to Play Tiga Talk video button.
I have an older iPod without a microphone – can I still use this app?
If you have an external microphone or headset with microphone, you can use the app in its full capacity. You may want to calibrate the microphone to accommodate the sensitivity level of you microphone.
If my child has problems with a particular phonetic sound, how can I let him or her practice that sound specifically?
Click menu on the main screen and then Lessons on the tab at the bottom. You can change the list to show only easy, medium or hard sounds by clicking on the category buttons at the top.
Why does the app ask me a math question when I go into the menu section?
The app asks a simple math question to keep kids out. When playing on their own, children will get more value from playing through the entire story and learning all the sounds rather than just playing the games they particularly like. This can be turned off on the settings screen.
The app crashed when I opened it, how do I fix that?
This is rare, but if it does happen, one fix is to download and install the latest Apple firmware (software) update for your device through iTunes. Then restart the app.
